🙋♀️ Your 5-Minute Guide to Start Investing on Robinhood
Read time: 5min
If you’ve been putting off investing because it feels overwhelming or “too complicated,” let me tell you this: You’ve got this.
I’ve been there, and trust me, starting is WAY easier than it seems. Let’s break it down step-by-step. In just a few minutes, you’ll have your first $20 invested in the S&P 500. Let’s do this! 🚀
Step 1: Download the Robinhood App
Go to the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android).
Search for Robinhood and download the app (it’s free!).
Open the app and tap Sign Up to create your account.
Step 2: Create Your Account
Enter your email address and create a strong password.
Follow the prompts to fill out some basic info:
Your name.
Date of birth (you need to be 18+ to invest).
Social Security Number (this is 100% safe and required to comply with US law).
Link your bank account so you can add money to invest. Don’t worry—it’s super secure, and I’ve done this hundreds of times myself.
Step 3: Add $20 to Your Robinhood Account
Once your account is set up, tap Account → Transfers → Transfer to Robinhood.
Choose your linked bank account and enter $20.
Tap Review, then Confirm.
It might take a day or two for the money to show up in your account, but don’t worry—it’s on its way!
Step 4: Find an S&P 500 ETF
Now for the fun part: investing! 🎉
In the Robinhood app, tap the Search icon (magnifying glass).
Type in VOO (Vanguard S&P 500 ETF)—this is one of the most popular and beginner-friendly ETFs.
Tap on VOO to open its page.
Step 5: Buy Your First ETF
Tap the Trade button (or Buy if you see it).
Enter the amount you want to invest—$20.
Tap Review, then Submit to confirm your purchase.
🎉 That’s it! You just invested in the S&P 500, which means you now own a small piece of the 500 biggest companies in the US, like Apple, Amazon, and Google.
